Well the weekend is finally upon us :-)
I hope everyone had a happy and productive work week, I know I did.
I am thinking of stitching together an essay on MMIS procurements and the effect that MITA is having and will have over the next decade in the MMIS marketplace. The days of the legacy, one-vendor solutions are slipping by the wayside and new systems are likely to include multiple solutions and multiple vendors.
If you have some thoughts you would like to share on this topic, please leave them in the comments box or email me at mitablog@comcast.net.
Thanks, have a great weekend!

I would be more curious to see your take on how to get to where things are heading. I think endpoint is relatively clear when people take the time to look at what is already out there on MITA, but the path is very murky. I can safely say I agree the future should have multiple solutions and multiple vendors, but I'm not sure all the people being tasked with doing these new MMIS procurements really get the the message.
Very good points (and a great moniker too!)I hope to post some entries in the near future that will help those facing a "MITA implementation" to get started. The SS-A for example is a great way to get federal dollars to make the most of the requirements development phase. I think that too many new projects don't invest nearly enough time in this area and it comes back to bite them throughout development and testing.
The pathway is indeed a bit murky at this point. I think that the focus really needs to be on modeling the business processes in such a way that the technology and data platform decisions are much easier to make. IMHO MITA is about the business of the Medicaid enterprise. If we can standardize the business processes, the triggers and results in particular, then the technical stuff is pretty much standard SOA. (okay, that was a gross oversimplification) Data standards are going to be very important too, and that is something that has heretofor been majorly lacking attention in MITA.
We are singing from the same sheet of music. Who's going to put together the orchestra?
I think that CMS has to step up and rally lead the band. The NMEH, S-Tag, individual State participation and the PSTG are also key participants. We also have to bring the HL7 and HIT workgroups into the arrangement in the near future. I think that the players are all capable and willing, we should have more of a solid compilation within the next year.
